Donate for Dartmoor

Great South West Sportive are supporting Donate for Dartmoor with a £1 donation for every cyclist taking part in their event on Sunday, 14th October. The two cycle routes - Standard and Extreme - both encompass Dartmoor’s punishing terrain, taking cyclists up past Princetown and onto the high moor.

Great South West Sportive’s support will be used to help fund the Nun’s Cross path restoration. This is a key project for the Donate for Dartmoor fundraising scheme which is focussed on improving access along this well-used path across a spectacular area of high moorland from Princetown over Eylesbarrow and down to the road near Gutter Tor.

The Nun’s Cross route is popular with mountain bikers, walkers and horse riders and Dartmoor National Park are carrying out path restoration, repairs and improvements to limit erosion. Once complete, this will provide a 20km circular, high quality, sustainable walking and cycling route from Princetown, boosting tourism and the local economy.

“It is fantastic that Great South West Sportive recognise the importance of looking after Dartmoor and through giving £1 a participant are enabling us to care for and improve routes for cyclists, walkers and horse riders to enjoy.” Andrew Watson, Head of Recreation, Access and Estates.
